Roatan, Honduras April 2023

After watching many excursions down to Roatan, to work with the Roatan Animal Welfare group, I decided to take the plunge. It was a busy 2 days filled with many cats and dogs. Some of the cats ranged from 8 weeks of age and up. Many of the patients were ridden with fleas and ticks. There were a few that were suspected of being pregnant, but actually had infected pus-filled uterus (also known as pyometra). Luckily, we were able to spay them and remove the infection. The pets were very well behaved, and the owners were extremely grateful for this opportunity. They lined up waiting their turn by 8 am and sat waiting in the humid heat while their pet woke from anaesthesia enough to bring them home. We had six surgeons in total, all very experienced. We are proud to say that we were able to perform 221 surgeries over the two-day period. We would like to thank Roatan Animal Welfare for hosting us and the crew from Cedarwood Animal Hospital in Red Deer Alberta  and ALL the volunteers who donated their time to help with translating, paperwork, and assisting in recovery, - Lisa
